About Us
The Illawarra Hockey Centre is administered by Illawarra Hockey Inc, created as a partnership between former associations, Illawarra Men’s Hockey Inc. and Illawarra Women’s Hockey Inc.
We are a non profit volunteer organisation established to plan, develop and manage facilities for the playing of field hockey, indoor hockey and other compatible sports.
The Indoor Stadium was opened on 2 March 1991 and has played host to a variety of events including local and state Indoor Hockey and Volleyball, national Indoor Hockey Championships as well as a range of activities as diverse as computer fares, baby bazaars, car shows, career days and expo’s. It is the home for local indoor hockey and volleyball competitions and is the preferred venue for football codes for training when council fields are unavailable due to wet weather. Other sports users over the years have included floorball, futsal, table tennis and recently boccia. Schools are also a user of the facilities.
The two international standard water based hockey turfs were opened in 1998 and 1999 respecticvely and have played host to many state and national championships as well as several international matches. Other sports such as football and rugby league have also used the turfs for training.
Facilities
The Indoor Stadium is the home of Illawarra Indoor Hockey and Illawarra Volleyball. It also hosts trade fairs, car shows, expo’s and a many other events.
The flooring is an international standard sport floor, Gerflor Taraflex, suitable for most sports from nursery schools to senior aerobics and has been used in all Olympic Games Gymnastic Halls since Montreal 1976. The composition of the floor is such that it helps prevent physical stress on the body structure and reduces the risk of injury from impacts or falls.
The stadium lighting has been designed to eliminate possible shadows or dull areas.
The playing area consists of two well ventilated playing areas 22m x 35m with the use of a mechanical curtain if needed, or as a full stadium area of 62m x 42m.

The outdoor includes two international standard hockey fields with Polygras Olympia synthetic turf and are a major facility for Illawarra South Coast Hockey. Seating is available via an enclosed viewing/amenities building and its surrounding balcony for 100+ and a further 250 on the east side of the viewing/amenities building. Additional seating for 300 is available via the use of portable grandstand seating as required.
